    Door glass removal

    Post  solo79 on Sun Jun 08, 2014 2:03 pm

So, I stripped my car down and have removed all wiring except the wiring in the doors. When I bought the car the owner said the power windows worked sometimes. Well, I never even checked them for fear of getting stuck down and just left them up. So, now they are up and I need to get them out. What is the best way to get the glass out? Do I have to apply power to get them down or is there another way? I've got to re-weld the door glass frame to the doors because they are separated a little and loose and I need the glass out to do it. Thanks to anyone for any help.

I havent messed around with mine yet and ive had the car over three years, i havent even taken the door panels off yet, which is a surprise to myself because i take everything apart, broken or not lol, but when i had my 84 caprice four door, those windows were very easy to take out just unloosen one bolt/screw whatever. I know the windows on our two doors are really large and probably heavy if trying to hold them to get them in or out. I know on the 80's models they switched from the conventional regulator to a tape drive type deal (to save weight).

I'm thinking I'll have to power them to get them down enough to slide them out.  I briefly looked at it yesterday after work and it appears I can't just unbolt since the glass is up tight in the frame.  Hooking the switch back in is easy enough, but I've got to figure out which wire to ground and which one to put 12v on the end of the harness plug so I can roll them down.  This should be fun.
