axle swap options for fitting reverse offset wheels?

Post  REZ on Wed Jun 11, 2014 10:13 pm

I have browsed a few threads online abt swapping rear ends on the 75 Impala with later model years.

My current rear end needs to be abt 1.5-2" shorter on each side to fit my 8" wide reverse offset rims.
I looked into having it shortened up by a pro shop and it is pricey. Possibly a grand Shocked

SO Im looking for alternatives that arent going to complicate my already complicated situation.
I intend to drop this car abt 3" and also air bag it btw.

    Anybody got some wise advice?
( _BESIDES going the easy way and selling my rims and getting some other ones)

Welcome to the forum. Keep what you got and make it into a wide body. That would sure turn some heads!
    J/K, lol.
Myself, I like to keep it simple so I'd ditch the wheels and get ones that fit.

Welcome to the forum! I love lowriders. I'm not much on the earlier cars as far as technical, more of a 77-79 guy, but I love lowriders.lol You should post some pics of that ride in the Share With Us section! What type of wheels are they?

Im also of no help here, most of us are if its safe to say "experts" of the 77-96 models. Ive never owned a 76 or earlier or been really close to one (besides car shows but you cant get dirty and check them all out lol) I know the frames are very similar just longer i believe, but again thats no help.

A G body rear definitely is narrower than a B body if you can find a G body 10 bolt Posi but some light welding would

be a prerequisite to that swap. I think you'd get 3-4" at least much narrower[9in from yours to a 78 Monte in body width] vehicle( Had a 78'  231 Cutlass long gone).

Funny mentioning not seeing Impalas from early 70s I have seen 3 this past week all deep in the dirt of junkyards. Shame

they were nice albeit big cars.
