Front Bumper Tuck on 89 Caprice - Shorter Bumper Shocks

    What Up B-Body lovers,

Just joined the forum since I plan on doing some mods to my 89. I wanted to get some opinions and/or input on this...

My front filler has been crumbling since I got the car in 2010 so I purchased one of those aftermarket fillers from eBay which I haven't gotten around to installing. I did, however, start to finally pull out the remnants of the old filler and noticed an uneven gap between the bumper and the front clip.

I assumed it was due to a partially compressed shock so I picked up a pair of shocks from a buddy that was parting out an '85 wagon. Once I did the shock swap, I noticed the new shocks were almost half the size. Even the overall circumference of the cylinder was smaller. I'm almost thinking these were from a cutlass or other G Body since my buddy has several parts cars laying around.

Anyhow, this was the result. There's still a bit of a gap but nowhere near as bad as before. I'm almost thinking of leaving it as is. What do you guys think? Also, there is still a about a quarter inch difference in the gap from one side to the other. I'm not sure if this is common or if maybe the car had a small front end collision. I was thinking of installing some shims or thick washers but I'm not sure what the best solution is to align a bumper.

    Here is before:

After smaller shocks installed. Still need to adjust the bumper some, it's hanging a little lower on the passenger side.
