1978 Bel Air pass side mirror

    Post  78i6belair on Sun Nov 08, 2015 9:35 am

Hi there. Been awhile since I posted on this great fourm but I have a question in regards to my rare 78 Bel Air 4dr sedan.

Being a super base model car with only three options, I only have a small chrome side veiw mirror on my driver side door.

I'd like to mount a passenger side mirror but I am unsure of what year ranges will fit and sit at the correct angle in relation to the door. I do know that I will have to drill out the pass side door to mount.

Any ideas or thoughts would be great.

    Cheers!

I'm not sure of the date range, but they were used on many different years and models right on into the 1980s. Most used ones will have pitted chrome and because they were used on so many different models they may not have the correct base gaskets for your car.

Honestly, your best bet would be to purchase a NOS one. Not only will it will have a new mirror with the correct base gasket, it will have a template to correctly locate the holes you have to drill and a metal reinforcement for inside the door. You seldom get the reinforcement with a used one.

Hey thanks guys. I never thought about the reinforcement part of this swap and that does add some complexity to this.

Ya I figured the N.O.S route would be the best and only real way.
