1965 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Speedometer error

    Post  x75 on Sat Dec 12, 2015 9:39 am

My speedo reads about 20% fast, e.g. shows 60 MPH when doing about 45-50. My tires are not undersized, in fact we're running 17s with big rubber, replacing the little factory 14s that were on it.

The speedo is driven off the LEFT FRONT WHEEL, with a cable that appears to go straight into the back of the dash. I cannot find any gears like you see on a speedo cable that connects to a transmission tail-shaft housing.

How can I re-calibrate my speedometer?

As you said those the ones with the wheel driven speedometer used in the 60s. I don't know too much about

them but I do many people replace the transmission or the speedometer. I think if your cable is ok the wheel sensor is

bad they are supposed to be accurate. Options are replace the wheel unit or go into the aftermarket if not for speedo

or trans there is a digital sensor that can replace that but it's not cheap.
