    1977 Pontiac Laurentian Coupe

    Post  77LAURENTIAN77 on Thu Feb 09, 2017 11:10 pm

Hey Guys, i just joined. I have a bone stock (not for long) 1977 pontiac. I'm looking to change the rear end to a posi. id also like to have disc brakes in the back. Are there and rear ends out there that would be direct bolt ins. Essentially my car is an impala/caprice/parisienne. i'm currently doing an engine and transmission sway from the 305 to a 350 with a holley 650 and changing the transmission from the shitty 3 speed auto to a 4spd with overdrive auto from an 87 regal.

As well, i am in dire need of weather stripping for my car. i already bought the door frame and trunk seal, but i am having a hell of a time trying to find the proper window frame seals as well as the window seals. i need the two doors and the ones for the rear quarter widows. Let me know what ya think.

    Thanks

As far as the rear end, the only ones with disc brakes were the 94 to 96 impala ss or 9c1, i swapped mine about 3 years ago, you can see it here: https://www.gmbbodyforum.com/t153-gm-8-5-10-bolt-swap-from-a-96-impala-ss?highlight=gm+10+bolt

Heres a listing on ebay for window sweeps its the third post i believe that has the link https://www.gmbbodyforum.com/t45-window-sweeps-for-the-77-79-2-doors?highlight=window+sweeps

Ill try to find the window channel runs, i know theyre on here if you want to search for them, as far as the quarter glass seals, yeah those are non existant, youll have to find a used set or nos, but welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately the post isn't listed any more so im not too sure what ill do now. I am picking up a 1979 pontiac parisienne 4 door in a few weeks. Stripping it down and then selling. might see if the window channels fit and are in good shape. and if any of you need parts let me know. Im not sure what ill do for the window sweeps now.

Window sweeps are the seals that sit on the sill of the door at the base of the window right? What is the exact name of the window frame seal that sits in the frame of the window and the rubber that ges and guides the window as it rolls up and down

Yes they sit on the base of the door, some people call them window felts, the link is 3 or 4 posts down for the window sweeps not on the first post, but heres the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/1977-1979-Pontiac-Bonneville-Catalina-2-dr-window-sweep-seals-belt-line-molding/321268129940?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D25805%26meid%3Dbee73113d5474d848c335736ea60f6cb%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10778%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D221124890293 Though im not sure if these will fit your car, and the ones you are talking about are called the window channel runs

Also check this out for the window channel runs, again im not sure if theyre the same, but i think they would be since gm didnt like to really switch up the parts and tooling between buick, pontiac, and olds, from chevy https://www.gmbbodyforum.com/t543-window-channel-runs-for-77-79-2-doors?highlight=window+channel+run

I badly need set of those sweeps this spring (Mine are rotted) . I don't mind the drums with those 11" drums it stops better

than my fiancees Honda  with all wheel ABS.  In fact with 225/60/16 and the front pads B Body recommended it's actually

hard to lock them up because the cars stops so good wet or dry (I use studs in winter).  I'm just saying I wouldn't snub my

nose at the drums they were made for heavier cars than the 2 door coupes (The later 4 doors weigh at least 300-400lbs

    heavier)

Myloth, so you tried the 94 to 96 impala ss brake pads?

And to the OP if you do swap rear ends, to either one that has discs or 11 inch drums the bolt pattern will change to a 5x5 assuming you have 9.5 inch drums currently on a 5x4.75 bolt pattern.

When I replaced my 8.2 rear end w/8.5, the bolt pattern went to 5x5.

The drums that came with it were junk and heavy at 23 lbs. each.

My purchase of new drums at Auto Zone were the lighter 17 lb. units.

Same diameter, but 6 lbs. less each of rotational weight.

The previous vehicle was a Buick Roadmaster (heavy) car.

I may try the 94-96 pads this summer.

Well those would work as the laurentian and catalina are sister cars, almost identical. I believe the catalina featured more option the the super basic laurentian. What about the rear quarter windows?

Well being they are non existant for the 77 to 79 aerocoupes im pretty sure they will be for yours too, you will have to find a used set or nos, but itll be just a little bit easier if you have a part number for them, i dont know if the part number is stamped on them, worth a look.

But those damn channels and sweeps I need really badly too my driver's side has had it. (I got by for year using some

non silicone black sealer but mine are shredded & torn at this point)Finding NOS is a bit of a bug hunt probably have to go

    custom or cob it.
